In a land where mortals and gods once fought for supremacy, destiny has been in the hands of the fairer sex ever since they became immortal. But when Menaka sips from the urn to bring back her lover Kama, Menaka becomes a mortal woman in search of love. Her quest leads her to Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, where she meets two very different men. One is Vikram Singh Bhatiya who is a simple village boy who hates pretense and hypocrisy yet craves worldly things like power and money; while the other is Dharam Singh Dhariwalwala who lives an austere life in seclusion but remains true to his principles. But in a world where a man's life is measured in the years he lives and his fate in the coin he gives, how can they be expected to win a woman's heart? The film opened with about 60–70% occupancy in over 700 screens in India. In 2011, it was reported that producer Karan Johar had acquired the TV rights of "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" for an undisclosed amount. It was also reported that SVT would telecast the series on SVT1 from November 2011. The show became popular amongst the youth when it was aired on television.The music of "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is composed by Pritam Chakraborty. There are five songs in the film and lyrics penned by Kumaar and Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film generally received positive reviews from critics, with praise aimed at Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif's performances and direction, though some criticised it for its predictability. Nikhat Kazmi of "Times of India" gave it three stars out of five, praising Imran's performance as "terrific" and Katrina as "simply terrific". Raja Sen from Rediff gave it three out of five stars as well. He too praised Khan as "acting like a dream" and reaffirmed the fact that Kaif was once again the "best thing to come out of Mumbai". Noyon Jyoti Parasara of AOL India gave it four out of five stars, noting that the film was "a beautiful attempt to show the lighter side of life in India" and that Imran Khan's performance "delivers in every department". Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama gave it three out of five stars. He noted that while Imran Khan "excels ... with his performance", Katrina Kaif "gets drowned in the story". Rajeev Masand also gave it three stars, but noted that it was a "predictable love story". Suprateek Chatterjee from CNN-IBN stated: ""Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is a fun movie, but nothing more than that. It is, however, one of the most entertaining rom-coms of the season." A critic for "The Times of India" gave it three stars out of five, praising Imran Khan's performance and calling him "the show stealer". Noyon Jyoti Parasara wrote that Katrina Kaif "was refreshingly good in the role of the khuli", while criticising Imran Khan's portrayal of her character's mother. Taran Adarsh called her last scene "one of the most powerful gestures in Bollywood".
